So we've had a pretty eventful week so Far!
Monday I had my Asthma testing with the specialist. To my many surprises leading up to this first of. The doctors name is Dr. Joel Doctor! I mean really?!?!? 2nd I get to the office and in the same office is the Dr who first diagnosed me when I was like 8. Then came the Skin test! The only major allergy I have Via skin irritation is GRASS! that's it! then came the Blow test, where you blow into a huge tube that runs into a computer and you have to push out every single oz of air in your lungs and then inhale really fast and deep. The DR was AMAZED at how well I did. So for the first time in my life I have well controlled asthma. For many of you, you cant know what this means, but let me tell you, it took alot for me not to cry as I left the office. I can even decrease the amount of my controller steroid.
Then Tuesday came along. Riley had a speech assessment. He has lots of sounds and single words and a few double word combinations but sentences seem to elude him still. So after an hour with the speech analyst she told me he is Delayed but that there is lots of help for him. We have to wait until the beginning of March before he can have his formal testing so that he gets funding to start pre-K/junior Kindergarten, but it means in September my son will be going to school and I don't have to worry about how we're going to be able to afford it. He'll get a speech and language therapist to work with as well as an occupational therapist because with the speech delay, its greatly inhibiting his ability to be potty trained. I don't have to stress that he has to be potty trained to start school! However explaining to people why he isn't potty trained is getting annoying.
Wednesday, we had a play date with a friend and her two daughters. The spent an hour and a half just running in circles around the kitchen island! It was awesome! The ages work out so that Riley falls right in between both of them and they get a long great. Its always nice to have kids that can play and not argue about too many things and just get along over all so that the mom's can chat and enjoy adult conversation.
Today I talked to a couple of the school admin people. We see the Providence school on Tuesday. They have a school opening in McKenzie in the fall so the bus ride would probably be about 45 min. I talked to Renfrew, they don't want to talk or visit until the actual test results are in which kind of turned me off a bit, that and the fact their closest school is up north of McKnight. Waiting for a call back from the Preschool Coordinator for CBE to talk about the school they have with the special program. A friend knows the principal at that school so I really want to see the dynamics.
A couple weeks ago had my Orthodontist appointment and my braces come off Feb 2ND! I cant believe it! Two years and 6 months!!
So needless to say this year has started out GREAT!!! It's like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders and my Spirit is lighter. 2010 wasn't the best for us. But 2011 holds so many promises and prospects and opportunities. Time to move forward and not look back!
